Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness

Volunteers and Give-away Items are needed for Project Homeless Connect – Tuesday, January 25, 2011

On Tuesday, January 25, the Trenton/Mercer Continuum of Care (CoC) will conduct a one-day event called Project Homeless Connect. This event sponsored by community leaders and designed to provide housing referrals, support services, haircut, clothing and hospitality in a convenient one-stop format for people experiencing homelessness.

Last January, we served over 350 individuals at Project Homeless Connect event. The July 2010 event served over 370 people.

We are seeking volunteers to help set-up, to serve food, pass out items, and act as guides and survey takers. We are seeking donations of new socks, underwear, hat, gloves, sneakers, boots and personal care items.

CLOTHING/SNEAKERS - From January 10 to January 14 - (9am to 3pm) – Mercer Alliance will accept donations of jeans, sweaters, coats, hats, gloves, sneakers or work boots only. Most of the clients are male and all sizes of pant sizes 28 to 56, Small to 4 x shirts and larger men shoes sizes are needed.

Other items that are being collected: Flashlights/batteries, Reading Glasses; Personal Care kits: Toothbrushes, Razors, Brushes, Deodorant, Chap sticks, Tissues packets, Handi-wipes or personal hygiene wipes, and Personal first aid kits.

Volunteer training is scheduled for the following dates: 3 Training Dates. Choose one to attend and email:

  • Tuesday, January 11 @ noon
  • Thursday, January 13 @ Noon
  • Thursday, January 13 @ 6:30pm at the Rescue Mission.

Point-In-Time survey of the homeless

On Tuesday, January 25, 2011, the Trenton /Mercer Continuum of Care (CoC) will conduct a Point-In-Time survey of the homeless in Trenton and Mercer County. The purpose of this survey is to count the homeless living on the streets, in emergency shelters and transitional housing programs. The Point-In-Time Count (PIT) survey is a mandate by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) conducted on a bi-annual basis.

We are also seeking volunteers to help connect the Point-in-Time survey.
