CALL TODAY TO SAVE PUBLIC HOUSING

The Senate THUD Subcommittee is scheduled to meet next week to consider the FY 2012 appropriations bill. Initial reports indicate that the Senate's draft bill will cut Section 4 by ONE-THIRD, reducing the program from nearly $50 million in FY 2011 to $33.5 million for FY 2012. This cut is the largest cut in the history of the program.

Ahead of next week’s vote, please call Chairwoman Patty Murray's personal office starting TODAY at 866-481-9186 to oppose the one-third cut to Section 4. If you experience difficulty getting through on the toll free line, please use the long-distance number of 202-224-2621 .

The Message:

"The House has cut the HUD Section 4 Capacity Building program by one-third, which will hurt the capacity of local non-profits to build affordable homes and create local jobs during a national economic crisis. Senator Murray should not do the same as the House! Please restore funding to Section 4 in next week's markup."

Cuts of this magnitude will definitely have an impact on the community development activities in New Jersey. Please take five minutes to voice your opposition to these cuts.
