Our Goals

Ultimate Goal:

To build and strengthen our community by ensuring that within ten years every resident of Mercer County has permanent, affordable, safe housing with the ability to maintain it.

Long-Term Goals:

1) Prevent homelessness or “closing the front door” is a strategy to provide a financial safety net to protect those who have housing and are in danger of losing it. Equally necessary is ensuring that government institutions do not discharge people into homelessness.

2) “Housing First” or “opening the back door” is a strategy to move homeless people into safe, affordable, and permanent housing as soon as possible.

3) “Building a foundation” is a strategy for actively working with other groups to promote truly affordable housing, decent wages, and increasing income or work supports, and the treatment options and necessary services needed to maintain people in permanent housing.

Short-term goals and actions:
  1. Raising public awareness of the issues.
  2. Making safe and affordable housing available and ending concentrations of poverty in communities.
  3. Developing and implementing income strategies.
  4. Establishing a seamless safety net.
  5. Implementing discharge planning.
