Mercer County Point in Time Count

Mercer County will participate in NJ Counts 2015, a state-wide Point-in-Time count of the sheltered and unsheltered homeless. The Count’s results will continue to guide planning efforts to end homelessness across the state.

When: Wednesday January 28th, 2015 beginning at midnight on the 28th until midnight on the 29th.

How: Homeless individuals in shelter or transitional housing will be counted using HMIS. The Unsheltered count will be conducted by Street Outreach teams lead by the Rescue Mission, Greater Trenton Behavioral Health Care, Anchor House, Homefront and Catholic Charities.

What we still need:

• Volunteers are needed to accompany street outreach teams. Volunteers can sign up online here: https://doodle.com/s64m5p2hscgy4u5d or by contacting Joanne Locke at jlocke@merceralliance.org.
• Donations: small items such as socks, gloves, hats, backpacks, small zip lock bags of toiletries (items that can easily be packed in a backpack). Donations can be picked up by the Rescue Mission on Friday, January 23rd. Please contact Joyce Williams (joyce.williams@rmtrenton.org  to coordinate a pick up.
• On January 26th from 9 am – 12 pm at 509 Perry Street volunteers are requested to help sort and bag up the donations to be distributed by the outreach teams.

NJ Counts is designed to help us define the scope of homelessness in our community and to help plan for the most efficient use of our limited resources.
