Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness

Summer 2008
Project Homeless Convert
Empty Lot to Service Fair

On Thursday, July 10th, a beautiful summer day, Mercer/Trenton Continuum of Care held the first Summer Project Homeless Connect in Mercer County. Project Homeless Connect is a one-day event designed to provide information on housing and services in a convenient one-stop model for people experiencing homelessness. A picnic cookout was served with hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, fresh corn, salad, fruit and Rita’s Water Ice. Over 500 individuals and families received food, shoes, new clothing, towels, books, haircuts and an array of services. Over 120 volunteers participated in this successful event.

New Volunteers
New Volunteers included United Way’s Young Leaders from Johnson & Johnson, Sun Bank Employees, Salvation Army, Amani House residents, Hun and Ewing High Students. This event garnered the support of United Way’s Young Leaders who asked their businesses and colleagues to participate in a new sneaker and sock drive and to donate products and funds. These Young Leaders embraced the project with enthusiasm and drive with amazing results. Over 20 individuals volunteered for the first time at a PHC event.
